T.R. McKotch - Drum Instructor
|
T.R. McKotch studied drums under the instruction of Mike Ditonto in Jamestown, New York. He taught private lessons at his home studio until moving to Chautauqua Music in May 2002 and Crino Music in September 2002.
T.R. spent most of 1998 experiencing the New York music scene sharing studio space in Brooklyn, New York with such great musicians as Guitarist Brandon Ross (Arrested Development, Cassandra Wilson, and Harriet Tubman), Bassist Melvin Gibbs (Rollins Band, Harriet Tubman, and Project Logic), and Drummer J.T. Lewis (Lou Reed, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, and Harriet Tubman).
T.R. performed at the Great Blue Heron Music Festival on July 5, 2003 as a member of Jim Donovan (Rusted Root) & the Blue Heron Drummers, and has recently received a player/educator endorsement from Blue Heron Industries (makers of hand crafted Djembes) located in Jamestown, New York.
Currently teaching 30 students per week, T.R. teaches music theory, reading rhythms, NYSSMA solo preparations, snare drum, drum set, various ethnic hand drum forms including authentic African Djembe (gem-bay) and Djun-Djun (doon-doon) patterns, and Middle Eastern Doumbek patterns.
T.R. is currently accepting private students at Chautauqua Music, and small group hand drum lessons at the Lorraine School of Dancing located at 415 West 4th Street in Jamestown, New York.
